Dear Journal,
Today was a great start to the beginning of the national championships in Maryland. A total of four people made it back tonight in individual events, and an extra two people to add to the boys’ 200-medley relay. The girls’ medley relay, which I was fortunate to be apart of, placed 17th. Ugghhh!! We were so close! The girls and I were upset at first, but we soon realized that had many relays to look forward to and many opportunities to have good swims. Tonight is opening ceremonies, which is one of my favorite parts of the meet for several reasons. First, it’s a chance to see how creative each of the teams can get with their attire! Second, swimmers get to relax and take their minds off the meet for at least one night. I know most of the athletes here including myself love listening to the YMCA. Finally, opening ceremonies allow each swimmer to reflect on what he/she has accomplished over the years. Nationals is an event that you take with you for the rest of your life. It is a chance to be with your friends, swim fast, and live the moment. I’m having a great time and it will only get better as the days go on. Bye for now!!
Samantha
