8/2/02 - Tonight concluded another YMCA National Long Course swimming championship. Congratulations to Spartanburg for winning the Women's Championship title, Powel Crosley for winning the Men's Championship, and Roanoke Central for winning the Combined Championship title.
8/1/02 - This was an INCREDIBLY fast night at the University of Maryland's Natatorium. Central Florida YMCA's Ashley Carusone led off the evening with a new record in the 400 IM. She smashed the old record of 4:57.06 by setting a new mark of 5:54.95.
Two events later, Claire Woodall-Gainey broke her record of last year by .01 with a new time of 57.86 in the 100 Freestyle.
Betsy Jo Brockman, Ellen Magee, Ellie Miller, and Margie Keefe from M.E. Lyons set a new record in the 800 Freestyle Relay with a time of 8:38.28.
7/31/02 - Today was the first time the 800 Freestyle was included in the YMCA Long Course Championship. So of course the winners are also our first record holders in this event. Congratulations to Ashley Carusone from North Central Florida YMCA who swam a time of 9:02.15 and Christian Wolfgruber from Wilton Family YMCA with a time of 8:36.19.
7/30/02 - Ashley Carusone from North Central Florida YMCA and Claire Woodall-Gainey from Roanoke Central YMCA set new Long Course National Championship meet records at finals tonight. Ashley swam a 2:19.98 in the Women's 200 meter Individual Medley beating the old record of 2:20.39. Claire swam 26.49 in the Women's 50 Meter Freestyle eclipsing her own record from last year of 26.76.
