After listening to a three-time Olympic medallist, Josh Davis, talk to us yesterday at Opening Ceremonies our team as a whole took his words to heart. We understood the meaning of his message and realized that swimming at this level of competition is an honor and something to be proud of. As Josh Davis mentioned, we feel that being part of a YMCA team has prepared us mentally, physically, and spiritually to grow as individuals.
Today at the meet, it is evident that Davis’ speech helped us to reach our full potential. Personally, we both focused on enjoying our races by concentrating less about the competition and more about improving our times, our placement, and our technique. We feel strong and confident in the water and we know that with this attitude we will be able to continue to perform well for the remainder of the week.
