SWIM SUITS AND COMPRESSION TAPE
Confirmation of Swim Suit Apparel rules at Y National Swim Championships. YMCA Competitive Swimming follows the Technical Rules and Regulations of USA Swimming. As a reminder to coaches of teams attending the YMCA National Championships, both Short Course and Long Course, the rules pertaining to SWIMWEAR (Rule 102.8) will be in effect. Specifically, Rule 102.8.1 C contains the provisions that suits must comply with "...FINA swimsuit specifications." The FINA specifications (FINA Rule 4.1.6) state that "no zippers, or other fastening system is allowed" and these specifications will be observed. The Chair of USA Swimming Rules Committee has determined that suits with a "tie back" are considered to have a "fastening system," and are therefore non-compliant with the FINA rule. Competing in such a swimsuit is considered a violation of rule 102.8.1C and would result in a disqualification. Additionally, your attention is directed to Rule 102.8 E. "Any kind of tape on the body is not permitted unless approved by the referee." The use of "Kinesio" or "Compressive tape" will not be approved by the meet Referee, consistent with the current guidelines and rule 102.8 E of USA Swimming. Kinesio tape is considered to aid the swimmers performance, which is specifically prohibited by rule 102.8 E.

SEAT SAVING
Our Meet Surveys continue to indicate that many respondents are upset with seats being saved before the start of Preliminaries. For many teams and individuals, there is a tradition of sitting together during our National Meets. We believe that many life long friendships are greatly enhanced by this experience, and that this is an important part of our parents' Nationals experience. However, the Meet Surveys lead us to believe that we need seat saving procedures for those parents sitting in the grandstand. Accordingly, at 8:30 each morning of competition, our announcer will ask everyone saving a seat to remove whatever they are using to do this. Then, those saving seats will be asked to either move in or out so that someone else may sit in the spot that was being saved. The Gate Guys will help us in this endeavor. However, they are not part of the complex's formal security. We are hopeful that our parents and friends will help us make all of these problems go away.
We encourage everyone attending to view the pool and attached Conference Center maps. They should help everyone attending the meet to familiarize themselves with the complex. There is enough seating for our parents, relatives and friends attending. Please notice that each of the competition pools have additional seating on their respective sides. For those unable to attend, USA Swimming will be providing video for the meet.

CHANGE OF YMCA NATIONALS THEME
During our initial planning of the 2016 YMCA Short Course Nationals, we selected "Olympics" as the theme of the meet due to this year being an Olympic year. Upon reflection, we have decided it is in the best interest of the YMCA National Championship that we change this theme. The new theme will continue to connect to the Olympics but not directly reference it. As you most likely know, the Olympics and various Olympics logos and graphic elements are very controlled by the international Olympic Committee. Unauthorized display of the Olympic logo and other graphic elements is prohibited. This change is intended to avoid inadvertent use of Olympic trademarks. The new theme will be Rio Festival. This new theme has numerous opportunities for festive costumes for our traditional Athlete Parade that is held on the Tuesday evening prior to the Finals session. We look forward to seeing all the creative ways that teams will celebrate YMCA Nationals Championship. Note: Parade costumes must be YMCA appropriate

ATHLETE VILLAGE SETUP
Once again this year, we are asking swimmers to use the Athletes Village located in the Special Events Center during Preliminaries whenever they are not swimming. With 1,400 or more athletes attending the competition, the pool deck is too crowded to accommodate everyone. Your cooperation will give each athlete an opportunity to do their best. This year, teams with 4 or fewer swimmers will be assigned to a large common area unless they contact David Hoover (Greensboro Aquatic Center, Event Coordinator) to request a dedicated area. David's email address is: david.hoover@greensboro-nc.gov. Please make sure you reference the YMCA Short Course National Championship in your email so he knows the associated meet for the request. Only a coach should make the request to David. We will continue to assign teams with five or more athletes to a dedicated area within the Athletes Village. Please remember that everyone is responsible for their personal belongings. Swimmers should never leave any of these items unattended.
